TITLE: A SUBJECTIVE MIX: LIZ WEST, FESTIVAL OF MAKING 2018
TYPE OF EVENT: ARTISTIC INSTALLATION
PARTNER: FESTIVAL OF MAKING
DATE: JUNE 2018

We are proud to be a partner venue for the National Festival of Making, usually a two day event taking over the town with a unique celebration of UK making ‘from factory floor to the kitchen table’ which welcomes more than 40,000 visitors to Blackburn.

Art in Manufacturing is a co-commission between National Festival of Making and Super Slow Way which sees artists placed in residence in major manufacturers across Lancashire. The artists collaborate with workforce’s to make incredible new works from soundscapes to sculptures which are presented at the festival weekend.

Artist, Liz West, a renowned manipulator of colour and light, created a 3.5 metre high octagonal structure which tricked the eye. Observing the repeated octagons in the Cotton Exchange’s ceiling design, the half octagons of the window bays and the octagonal shape of the foyer the shape of the final installation was determined by the building itself.
