The sale by auction of the Majestic Cinema. Blackburn. by Richard Hoyle and Son. of Manchester, which took place in Thatched House, Newmarket
valuation which amounted to 17s. 9d. The purchaser was George Rose, who owns a number of kinemas in the Manchester district.
It is the intention of Mr. Rose, we understand, to renovate the kinema, and reopen with a new management. The lot included a cafe a restaurant and a number of shops and was reported to have sold for £25,000 which was 16 times its rateable value and equivalent of £2,021,000 in today’s money.
