Did you know that the Exchange was not built without risks?
One of the workers who helped build the new Exchange had a terrible accident on January 30, 1864. His name was John Mellody and he was carrying a stone along the scaffolding, 16 feet above the ground, when he slipped and fell. He was lucky to survive, but the stone hit his head and injured him badly. This story was reported in the Preston Herald at the time.
