Our first Heritage Open Days event in September 2017 was a very special day. We were able to open the doors for first time without visitors needing to wear safety helmets, thanks to emergency internal work to our roof by High Level Maintenance. We were joined by many people with memories of the cinema, including a married couple who had their first date at the cinema and those who worked here, including Laura Cowen who travelled from Winchester to be back inside the building where she worked as an usher, box office attendant, projectionist and refreshment seller in 1998 and 1998 during university holidays.

Below is Laura in her Apollo t-shirt and name badge and sharing her scrap book and stories with other visitors.

Do you have useful information, photos or ephemera which will help us piece together the story of this remarkable building? Our volunteer archivist, Harriet Roberts would love to hear from you. Harriet@exchangeblackburn.org.uk
