Dates announced for reopening of The Exchange following tower refurbishment

The Exchange is set to welcome the public back this spring following a £1.5 million refurbishment programme to the tower entrance supported by Levelling Up Funding from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

Stunning stone tracery and stained glass has been revealed for the first time in a hundred years, whilst a modern staircase, lift and glass entrance doors provide accessibility, in line with the vision of a state-of-the-art events venue.

The major investment has delivered a stunning new tower entrance alongside significant improvements. Enhancements include new toilet facilities, new roofing and a modernised lift providing improved accessibility including access to three floors, creating a more welcoming and inclusive experience for all visitors.

Visitors are invited to view the transformation on the following dates:

  • Saturday 9 May, 10:00am – 4:00pm
  • Sunday 10 May, 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Trustee, Dr Alastair Murdoch who has led the tower refurbishment programme said:

“We know how much people love this building and how excited they will be that we are reopening. The weekend offers the perfect opportunity for the community to explore the revitalised tower, learn about our ongoing development plans, and enjoy the newly enhanced facilities.”

Admission is free, with voluntary donations welcomed on the door to support the continued development and future projects at The Exchange.  Meemaws cafe will be open for refreshments and copies of the recently published history book will be on sale.
